Ensure the highest standards of safety and performance with our cutting-edge Blue Etch Anodizing (BEA) NDT inspection service. Our specialized approach detects even the smallest surface defects in titanium components, guaranteeing the integrity of critical aerospace and power generation parts.

What is Blue Etch Anodize?

Blue Etch Anodizing (BEA) is a specialized, highly sensitive non-destructive testing (NDT) technique for detecting surface discontinuities such as laps, cracks, material segregation, heat-treating imperfections and abnormalities caused by machining. Under normal conditions, surface defects as small as .015” can be reliably detected through the blue etch anodizing methodology.

Blue etch anodizing is only applicable to the detection of discontinuities in titanium materials such as those used in the manufacture of critical rotating parts for the Aerospace and Power Generation industries, where titanium is primarily used in the front “cold section” of a gas turbine aircraft engine due to its light weight, performance and temperature limitations.

One of the most critical applications of blue etch anodizing is to detect material segregations known as Hard Alpha Inclusions (HAI) and High Aluminum Defects (HAD’s).

Stay Compliant with Industry Standards

Meeting industry standards is crucial to avoiding delays, fines, or operational setbacks. Element’s Blue Etch Anodize (BEA) inspection service is designed to help you achieve full compliance with stringent industry standards, including AMS 2642, P3TF25, and CEIM-3. Our expert team ensures that your components are inspected with precision, helping you stay on track and avoid costly compliance issues.

Detect Risks Early to Prevent Failures

Undetected material flaws, such as Hard Alpha Inclusions (HAIs) and High Aluminum Defects (HADs), can lead to unexpected failures, posing serious financial and safety risks. Our BEA inspection service is specifically tailored to identify these critical defects in titanium materials early in the process. By catching these issues before they become problematic, we help you mitigate risks, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operations.
