Background

faced a significant challenge in addressing noise pollution concerns surrounding the M32 Eastville Viaduct in Bristol.

Noise Impact Assessment M32 Eastville Viaduct

The Challenge

With increased traffic, Eastville viaduct became a focal point for noise disturbance affecting nearby residential areas. The need to mitigate this issue was crucial to ensure the well-being of the community while maintaining transportation efficiency.

The Solution

Element’s acoustics experts stepped in to tackle this problem comprehensively carrying out a Noise Impact Assessment. They initiated a rigorous data collection process, spanning 12 months and encompassing various locations. This data served as the foundation for their detailed acoustic analysis, providing essential technical insights pivotal to designing an effective road traffic noise reduction scheme.

Utilizing cutting-edge technology, such as Air Dispersion Modeling, the acoustics team constructed a sophisticated 3D noise model of the viaduct's vicinity, considering multiple factors and scenarios. This comprehensive model incorporated the M32 Eastville Viaduct and surrounding residential areas. The aim was to assess various noise barrier configurations and their potential impact on reducing noise pollution. All work was carried out in accordance with BS 7445.

The Result

The efforts of Element yielded promising outcomes. Our in-depth analysis and meticulous planning paved the way for a robust noise mitigation scheme. By leveraging the 3D noise model, we identified optimal barrier scenarios, offering National Highways a range of solutions to effectively reduce noise pollution in the area.

This work signified a proactive approach toward addressing the issue of noise pollution around the M32 Eastville Viaduct. The collaboration between the acoustics team and National Highways underscores a commitment to community well-being and sustainable infrastructure development.
