Two of Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ×’s (Element’s) senior metallurgical engineers have been awarded prestigious awards from the metalcasting industry’s leading professional society, the (AFS).
Dr John Tartaglia FASM and Rick Gundlach FASM, who are both based in Element’s Wixom laboratory in Detroit, will be presented with their accolades at CastExpo, which is the largest North American gathering of the metalcasting supply chain, held this year in Atlanta, Georgia from 27-30 April.
John will receive the for outstanding technical papers and presentation, as well as meritorious technical contributions in the areas of material property information and fatigue strain analysis of cast metals. John is also a prior recipient of the ASF’s Howard F. Taylor Award which he received in 2012 in recognition of authoring a technical paper that had the most long-range technical significance to the foundry industry. Rick Gundlach, a prior recipient of both of these awards, will be presented with his second Taylor award at the same event. This year, the award recognizes research conducted at Element Wixom on the development of a method to maximize the strength of cast iron.
John Nelson, EVP Transportation & Industrials commented: “These are impressive achievements for John and Rick who, in addition to holding senior roles at Element, are regarded as technical leaders in the industry and serve on key technical committees.
